In September 1958, S.H. Madin and N.B. Darby isolated the MDCK cell line from the kidney of an apparently healthy adult female Cocker Spaniel. Positive for keratin immunoperoxidase staining. MDCK has been used to study the processing of β-amyloid precursor protein and its proteolytic products.
