This cell line is derived from a tumor induced by Abelson murine leukemia virus in BALB/c mice. It can produce lysozyme; it is sIg-, Ia-, and Thy-1.2-. No secretion of viral particles was detected, as shown by the negative XC plaque formation assay. The cells are capable of pinocytosing neutral red and phagocytosing latex beads and zymosan; they can mediate antibody-dependent lysis of sheep erythrocytes and tumor target cells. Treatment with LPS or PPD for two days can induce lysis of sheep erythrocytes, but has no effect on tumor target cells.
