The P388D1 cell line is derived from a lymphoma induced by methylcholanthrene. Upon induction with LPS and phorbol ester, P388D1 cells can produce IL-1 as well as lysozyme. These cells are capable of phagocytosing yeast polysaccharides and latex beads, and exhibit activity in the antibody-dependent, cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC) system. The P388D1 cells are negative for surface immunoglobulin (sIg) and free of ectromelia virus.
