The in vitro suspension culture of L1210 cells was first reported by G. Moore et al. (1966) and P. Himmelfarb et al. (1967), derived from tumors induced by applying 0.2% methylcholanthrene (dissolved in ether) to the skin of female mice. L1210 cells are widely used for routine screening of the cytotoxic activity of chemical agents and natural products; when inoculated into nude mice, L1210 cells resulted in 100% tumor formation (5/5) within 21 days.
