EL4 was established from a lymphoma induced in C57BL mice by 9,10-dimethyl-1,2-benzoanthracene. It is resistant to 0.1 mM hydrocortisone and sensitive to 20 mcg/ml PHA. There is also a subline (EL4.IL-2) that can produce high levels of IL-2. Testing indicates it is negative for myeloid deformity virus (mousepox).
