The experiment involved immunizing laboratory animals with purified human erythrocyte acetylcholinesterase, followed by fusing the spleen cells with SP2/O-Ag14 myeloma cells. The resulting antibodies bound to acetylcholinesterase from both humans and monkeys. However, the antigenic determinant of the AE-1 cell reaction site differed from that of the AE-2. Testing confirmed that the AE-1 cells were negative for short-limbed deformity (mousepox) virus.
