3T3-L1 is a continuously subcultured subline isolated by cloning from 3T3 cells (Swiss albino). These cells undergo a transition from preadipocytes to adipocyte-like cells as they progress from rapid division to confluence and contact inhibition. The cell line is negative for mousepox virus; it can produce triglycerides, and high concentrations of serum can enhance intracellular fat accumulation.
