The SVG p12 cell line is derived from human fetal glial cells isolated from the brains of embryos aged 8 to 12 weeks, and was generated by transfection with DNA from an SV40 mutant. These cells express the SV40 T antigen. SVG p12 cells are susceptible to JC virus infection and can be used for the detection and cultivation of other human neurotropic viruses.
