In 1984, J. Park and colleagues established the SNU-1 cell line from a poorly differentiated gastric carcinoma in situ that was removed prior to cytotoxic therapy. The cells are negative for L-dopa decarboxylase (DDC), positive for VIP receptors, but lack gastric receptors. No evidence of amplification or rearrangement of the N-myc, L-myc, myb, or EGF receptor genes was observed. The expression levels of c-myc and c-erb-B-2 RNA in these cells were comparable to those in other cell lines. The following genes were not expressed: N-myc, L-myc, c-cis, IGF-2, and gastrin-releasing peptide.
