Established in 1985 from the pleural effusion of a 62-year-old male patient with pulmonary giant cell carcinoma; it has been described as having c-myc amplification and KRAS mutation, and is capable of forming tumors in nude mice.
Alias: COR-L23P (P = primary); the cells are sensitive to doxorubicin, and multidrug-resistant subclones are available (COR-L23R, ACC 883).
Cell morphology: Epithelioid, very large cells, often multinucleated, growing in monolayer adherent culture.
