Plat-E is a highly important ecotropic retroviral packaging cell line. Its full name is Platinum-E, and it is derived from the Human Embryonic Kidney (HEK) 293 cell line.
Function: It is primarily used for the rapid and transient production of high-titer retroviruses, and can also be employed for stable retrovirus production.
The viruses produced by the Plat-E packaging cell line express a single tropic envelope, which allows them to infect only mouse and rat cells.
