The parental cell line is PC-3, derived from a 62-year-old Caucasian male with stage IV prostate cancer. This cell line (PC-3M) originated from a metastatic site: bone, and was isolated from tumors induced by PC-3 in mice. It shares a similar karyotype with PC-3 but displays a narrower distribution of chromosomal frequencies. Approximately 73% of PC-3/M cells contain 60 or 61 chromosomes.
