The KG1 cell line was established by H.P. Koeffler and D.W. Golde. The bone marrow was obtained from a 59-year-old Caucasian male who had erythroleukemia that later progressed to acute myelogenous leukemia. Morphologically, KG1 cells resemble acute myeloid leukemia, exhibiting marked pleomorphism with a predominance of myeloblasts and myelocytes. A small number of cells are mature granulocytes, along with trace amounts of macrophages and eosinophils.
