SU-DHL-2 is a histiocytic cell line, isolated in 1974 from the lymph node of a 73-year-old Caucasian female with large cell lymphoma. This cell line can be used for immunological research. Most of the cells are hyperdiploid, with a modal chromosome number of 51; occasionally, cells in the hyper tetraploid range can also be observed. Tiny marker chromosomes have been noted, and increases in chromosome numbers have been seen in groups A, B, C, and F. The cells are positive for non-specific esterase and acid phosphatase. The cells are negative for Epstein-Barr virus nuclear antigen (EBNA-). They are surface Ig negative (sIg-). It has been reported that these cells are E-rosette negative. ATCC has confirmed the presence of Epstein-Barr virus DNA sequences in this cell line by PCR.
