This cell line is a subclone of the human colorectal adenocarcinoma cell line COLO 320DM, also derived from round-shaped cells isolated from the colon of a 55-year-old Caucasian female patient with colorectal adenocarcinoma. The cell is characterized by prominent intrachromosomal amplification (homogeneously staining regions, HSR) and relatively low levels of extrachromosomal amplification (double minutes, DM), hence its name. It has been reported that this cell line can form tumors in nude mice, shows negative expression for CEA and CSAp, positive expression for colon antigen 3, and weakly positive for keratin and vimentin.
