The NCI-H295R cell line is derived from the pluripotent adrenocortical cancer cell line NCI-H295, which was established by Gazdar A.F. et al. and isolated from an adrenal cortical tumor. The NCI-H295 cells were modified under altered culture conditions to yield the NCI-H295R cell line, with the population doubling time reduced from the original 5 days to 2 days. While the NCI-H295 cells grow in suspension, the NCI-H295R cells exhibit monolayer adherent growth. The NCI-H295R cell line retains the ability to produce androgens and responds to angiotensin II and potassium ions. Age (sex): 48 years.
