SNU-449 was established in 1990 by J.-G. Park and colleagues from a Korean patient undergoing cytotoxic therapy. The cell line was derived by Park et al. in 1990 from a primary hepatocellular carcinoma specimen obtained prior to cytotoxic treatment in a Korean patient.
