SHP-77 retains key characteristics of SCLC and exhibits stable biochemical properties, allowing for continuous cultivation. This cell line represents an uncommon undifferentiated large-cell variant of small cell lung cancer.
Although it has the morphology of a variant, it maintains the biochemical properties of classic SCLC. Electron microscopy observations reveal gland formation and intracytoplasmic lamellar bodies. These cells express neuroendocrine markers such as L-DOPA decarboxylase and dense core secretory granules. SHP-77 can be used as a target for detecting 51Cr and 111In release to assess cytotoxicity in vitro and in nude mice, as well as to evaluate immune responses in lung cancer patients' cells and serum. This cell line can also be used to assess the immune status of SCLC patients undergoing radiation or chemotherapy.
