This cell line was isolated in 1977 by Cailleau R et al. from the pleural effusion of a 51-year-old African American woman with metastatic breast cancer. Although the donor tissue was heterozygous for the G6PD allele, this cell line consistently exhibits the G6PDA phenotype. There is a G→A mutation at codon 273 of the P53 gene, resulting in an Arg→His substitution. Each cell expresses 1×10⁶ EGF receptors.
