This cell line was established in 1976 from the peritoneal effusion of a 38-year-old Caucasian male. It exhibits a chromosomal translocation involving chromosomes 14 and 18, with a major rearrangement in the BCL-2 gene. The cell line is negative for Candida uptake. There is documentation indicating that it is also negative for Epstein-Barr virus (EBV).
