The HBE135-E6E7 cell line was derived from normal bronchial epithelium, which was obtained from a patient with squamous cell carcinoma who underwent a lobectomy. Cells from the first-generation explant were infected with the recombinant retrovirus LXSN16E6E7 carrying the human papillomavirus (HPV) E6E7 genes during their first passage. The cells were selected in the presence of 0.4 mg/mL G418.
