The TT cell line was established from a fine-needle biopsy sample of a 77-year-old female patient with medullary thyroid carcinoma. The TT cells continuously produce high levels of calcitonin and CEA. At 24 hours and 72 hours after medium replacement, immunoreactive calcitonin concentrations detected in the culture medium were 3900 pg per million cells and 7700 pg per million cells, respectively. After 72 hours, the accumulated concentration of CEA exceeded 27 ng per million cells.
