The cell line was established from the peripheral blood of a 1-year-old boy with acute monocytic leukemia. The cells are capable of phagocytosing latex particles and activated red blood cells, and neither the cell membrane nor the cytoplasm contains immunoglobulins. They express C3R and FcR; can be induced to differentiate toward the monocytic lineage by the phorbol ester TPA; and can serve as a transfection host.
