The cell line was established in August 1971 from a 55-year-old Caucasian female patient with adrenocortical carcinoma. The patient was pathologically diagnosed with a Grade IV primary small cell carcinoma of the adrenal cortex. Electron microscopy revealed that the cells exhibited numerous spherical gap junctions (BGJ).
