The SW 1353 cell line was originally isolated from a primary Grade II chondrosarcoma of the right humerus in a 72-year-old Caucasian female. The original culture medium was L-15 medium supplemented with cortisone and insulin, along with 10% FBS and 1% antibiotics. In January 1982, ATCC received one vial of SW 1353 cells that had been passaged to passage 12 and cryopreserved.
