This cell line originates from surgically resected tumor tissue of a Japanese patient. Electron microscopy reveals typical desmosomes between cells and abundant tonofilaments in the cytoplasm. Mycoplasma contamination was detected in 1975 and subsequently eliminated. The cells are integrated with the HPV16 genome, with 1–2 copies per cell.
