The NIH-OVCAR-3 cell line was established in 1982 by T.C. Hamilton. It was derived from the malignant ascites of a patient with progressive ovarian adenocarcinoma. When 10^7 cells were subcutaneously inoculated into five nude mice, all developed tumors within 21 days.
