The NCI-H716 [H716] cell line was established from the ascites fluid of a patient who had been treated with 5-fluorouracil. Unlike other colorectal cancer cell lines, NCI-H716 [H716] cells possess dopa decarboxylase and contain dense-core neuroendocrine granules in the cytoplasm. These cells do not express TAG-72 or CA19-9 antigens, nor do they produce carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA).
