The NCI-H460 cell line was established from the pleural effusion of a patient with large cell lung cancer. The p53 mRNA expressed by NCI-H460 cells is readily detectable, with levels comparable to those in normal lung cells, and no overall structural abnormalities in the DNA of NCI-H460 cells have been observed. NCI-H460 cells are positive for keratin and vimentin fiber staining, but negative for neurofilament triplet protein staining.
