This cell line was isolated in 1977 by Cailleau R et al. from the pleural effusion of a 51-year-old African American woman with metastatic breast cancer. Although the donor tissue was heterozygous for the G6PD allele, this cell line consistently exhibits the G6PD A phenotype. There is a G→A mutation at codon 273 of the P53 gene, resulting in an Arg→His substitution. Each cell expresses 1×10⁶ EGF receptors.

  1. This cell line is recommended to be cultured in Leibovitz's L-15 medium. Leibovitz's L-15 medium must not be exposed to carbon dioxide, as CO₂ will cause cytotoxicity.

  2. If you do not have a CO₂-free incubator, DMEM medium can be used as a substitute for Leibovitz's L-15. When using DMEM, normal 5% CO₂ incubation is acceptable.

  3. The standard accompanying culture medium is configured for Leibovitz's L-15. If you require the DMEM formulation, please contact our sales team to place an order and note that you would like it changed to Human Breast Cancer Cell Line (DMEM-H medium)(TCH-C468).
