The LoVo cell line was established in 1971 from a tumor nodule that had metastasized to the left supraclavicular region of a 56-year-old Caucasian male diagnosed with colon adenocarcinoma. Oncogene testing showed that LoVo cells express the oncogenes C-myc, K-ras, H-ras, N-ras, Myb, sis, and fos; the expression of the oncogene N-myc was not tested. LoVo cells are tumorigenic in nude mice. When combined with 107 cells and subcutaneously inoculated into five nude mice, tumors developed in all mice after 21 days. LoVo cells express the tumor-specific nuclear matrix proteins CC-3 and CC-4.
