A giant cell variant of a patient with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) exhibiting leukemic transformation was used to establish the MCL cell line JeKo-1 from peripheral blood mononuclear cells. The JeKo-1 cells are Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-negative and express an IgM B-cell phenotype. These cells overexpress cyclin D1, Bcl-2, c-Myc, and Rb proteins. Bcl-1/J(H) gene rearrangement has been confirmed by PCR. JeKo-1 cells are highly tumorigenic in SCID mice.
