The HMy2.CIR cell line is a variant derived from the fast-growing mutant Hmy.2B of the ARH-77 cell line, obtained through γ-ray irradiation and selection for cells lacking expression of HLA class I antigens. The HMy2.CIR cells do not express products of the HLA-A or HLA-B loci but exhibit low-level expression of HLA-Cw4. This cell line is suitable as a host for transfection of type I major histocompatibility complex (MHC) antigen genes. It has been reported that the ARH-77 cell line is positive for Epstein-Barr nuclear antigen (EBNA+) and Epstein-Barr virus capsid antigen (EBVCA+). Since the HMy2.CIR cell line originates from the fast-growing mutant Hmy.2B of the ARH-77 cell line, it is presumed that HMy2.CIR is also EBNA+.
