This cell line was isolated in 1957 by T.U. Sample et al. from the ascites of a 70-year-old Caucasian male with colon cancer. The patient had been treated with 5-fluorouracil for 4–6 weeks prior to the collection of the ascites sample. Positive for keratin immunoperoxidase staining.
