The BEAS-2B cell line was derived from normal human bronchial epithelial cells isolated from the pathological tissue of a non-cancerous individual. These cells were infected and cloned using a hybrid adenovirus 12–SV40 virus. BEAS-2B cells retain the ability to undergo squamous differentiation in response to serum stimulation, and they are used for screening chemical or biological agents that induce or affect differentiation and carcinogenesis. BEAS-2B cells are positive for keratin and SV40 antigen staining.
