The skin cancer cell line A-431 was derived from an 85-year-old female and is one of a series of cell lines established by D.J. Giard et al. It forms rapidly growing subcutaneous tumors resembling malignant melanoma in anti-thymocyte globulin and serum-treated NIH Swiss mice, and can form colonies on normal fibroblasts and agar. This is a hypertriploid human cell line.
