The 786-O [786-0] cell line is derived from a primary clear cell carcinoma; the 786-O [786-0] cells possess microvilli and desmosomes, and are capable of growing in soft agar. The 786-O [786-0] cells produce a PTH-like polypeptide that is similar to peptides found in breast and lung cancers. The N-terminal of this polypeptide is similar to that of PTH, its activity is also similar to PTH, and its molecular weight is 6,000 daltons.
